Our Strategic Framework
1. Enhance opportunities for businesses currently located within the greater Long Beach area to do business in foreign markets
- Identify and reach out to specific businesses that have high potential to benefit from additional foreign trade
- Provide business consulting in order to increase awareness and ability to take advantage of available foreign markets
- Provide technical training to businesses through international trade seminars,
conferences and workshops
2. Attract new business and employment opportunities to the greater Long Beach area
- Work with LBITO partners to recruit new businesses who specialize in the import and export of goods to foreign markets, and facilitate their relocation to Long Beach and/or surrounding cities
- Identify and strategically target businesses in related, but not necessarily competing industries to create economic and geographic synergies
- Actively recruit producers of products that support port operations, particularly “green” companies
- Work with the City of Long Beach to identify space, utility, and other requirements of targeted businesses in order to facilitate commercial/industrial property marketing and/or acquisition
3. Aggressively pursue foreign direct investment in an effort to be a preferred U.S. West Coast location for non-U.S. business operations
- Take advantage of Long Beach’s foreign trade zone status to incentivize investment in local manufacturing and other sectors that may potentially benefit from direct access to international markets via the Port of Long Beach
- Provide training in order to increase awareness and ability to take advantage of available foreign trade zones and other business incentives in Long Beach
